A city-based platform creates videos of job seekers, wherein they are able to communicate about themselves, their background and education, career goals etc.

These videos, which often stretch up to 3 minutes, are then posted by the platform on YouTube to be viewed by employers, who can then look at setting up interviews with candidates.

Thiyagarajakumar Ramaswamy, a career transition coach, says Leadership Stage, as the platform is called, helps job seekers find employment by assisting them present more than just a thin resume.

“Candidates can come to us and we help them create a video resume that highlights their abilities and skills,” says Ramaswamy, adding that video resumes can help candidates get a leg up.

In the last 6 months, Leadership Stage has helped about 1,200 candidates in the city across streams like engineering, MBA, healthcare etc get jobs by creating and uploading their video resumes.

“Often candidates from lesser known colleges are unable to express or present themselves in front of interviewers. Thus they often end up not getting the job.

While creating their video resumes, we train them on communication and presentation. And recruiters also get an idea about the candidate, and then decide whether or not to interview him/her,” says Ramaswamy.

Recruitment experts say since the job market is currently an employers market, where job seekers do not have much say, getting a competitive edge not just in terms of skills and education, but also in designing a CV is equally important.

“Many times candidates are unable to build a constructive CV which best explains their credentials,” says Sunil Goel, director of search firm GlobalHunt.

Video resumes are a pleasant change, say experts.
