With the job market opening up for contract workers, recruiters expect creation of 2 lakh job opportunities immediately.
“I am happy to announce that… the facility of fixed-term employment will be extended to all sectors,” finance minister Arun Jaitley said during his budget speech.
Relaxation of minimum fixed employment term from 240 days to 150 days has been termed as an innovative move to generate more jobs across the industry, specially footwear and leather.
“The move will boost contractual workers and companies would immediately dole out about 2 lakh vacancies,” said Sunil Goel, managing director of a staffing firm, Global Hunt.
Rituparna Chakraborty, co-founder and executive vice president of TeamLease Services added that, “it is noteworthy that the government has focused on clearing the air on the legitimacy of fixed-term employment across sectors. Earlier, such employment was prevalent in textiles and apparels only.”
“This is an encouraging step towards formalisation of economy,” said Chakraborty, who is also president of country’s apex flexi staffing body, Indian Staffing Federation.
FM with his budget has once again reiterated that the creation of job opportunities has been at the core of policy-making.
In sync with the mission, government’s effort to skill 1.3 million teachers is laudable, industry experts said. “However, the skill development plank was lacking in detail both in terms of outlay and programs targeted,” said Paul Dupuis, MD and CEO, Randstad India. “That being said, the INR 3,073 Crores allocated towards the Digital India campaign with specific investments to be made in up-skilling professionals in new age technologies like cyber-security and robotics is a welcome move.”
Gayathri Vasudevan, CEO, LabourNet appreciates the efforts of government with a pinch of caution. “I hope the next step forward will be to set up a brisk execution mechanism to take things forward, which might prove to be the next big challenge for the govt.”
