• Translate requirements into user stories and create clear acceptance criteria when defining testing strategies.
• Understands continuous integration and continuous delivery; capable of building robust, automated testing suites through all environments.
• Understand how exploratory testing is utilised in an agile environment, and understands how to perform unscripted testing. Strong Test Engineers work with the team to implement test charters which give exploratory testing sessions a clear mission, without being too prescriptive.
• Proficient in the application of Behavioural Driven Development (BDD).
• Executes operational acceptance tests, such as checking backup/restore facilities, disaster recovery procedures and the arrangements for performing maintenance tasks before releasing your software.
• Test for cross-browser and cross-device compatibility, to ensure that the product is accessible to the widest possible number of users.
• Manage the defect lifecycle and have the ability to advise on tests to put in place after fixes are made.
• Understand how legacy services can be maintained and improved over time, until they are retired.
• Have a strong understanding of high level systems architecture, including concepts such as application servers, databases, middleware, web services.
• Execute performance tests to ensure that the product / service remains stable and responsive when faced with significant volumes of traffic
• Have a strong understanding of code repositories, commit process (trunk concept) and version control.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience working in fast paced agile environments with cross functional teams.
• Experience contributing to, and achieving, continuous improvement goals.

• A Test Engineer is responsible for writing, debugging and refactoring test code and automated test scripts. They advance the QA community through sharing of best practice and mentoring others.
• Work closely with software engineers to reach a common understanding of the code base and test coverage at unit level
• Collaborate with Business Analysts to make sure the required business scenarios are covered in the acceptance test scripts
• Work on both functional and non-functional areas of an application, product or service.
